How MYWAI and its partners built Italy's first national demonstrator for Underwater Data Awareness — in just three months.

A New Milestone for Italian Marine AI
We're proud to share a landmark achievement for MYWAI and our partners. The NEPTUNE BEYOND project has been officially awarded to a consortium led by MYWAI, together with the Italian Institute of Welding (IIS), NextVision, and Immersea — under the RAISE AI & Robotics Innovation Competence Center, managed by Italy's National Research Council (CNR), the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), and the University of Genova.
Together, this consortium has built Italy's first national demonstrator for Underwater Data Awareness, applied to advanced anthropic installations managed by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) — using cutting-edge AI techniques in underwater environments. And it was achieved in just three months.
What is NEPTUNE™?
At the heart of this achievement is NEPTUNE™, a project led by MYWAI and built on proprietary patents. NEPTUNE™ is a specialized evolution of MYWAI's AIoT platform, purpose-built for Underwater Data Awareness. It enables the centralized, real-time management of environmental and operational data collected from ROVs and underwater drones — transforming complex, dynamic marine environments into actionable operational intelligence.
In practical terms, NEPTUNE™ bridges the gap between raw underwater data and meaningful insights, giving operators a unified, intelligent view of what's happening beneath the surface — in real time.
From Video Streams to 5D Digital Twins
What makes NEPTUNE™ truly groundbreaking is its ability to construct high-fidelity digital twins of underwater environments, by combining three powerful technological layers:
3D Gaussian Splatting — photorealistic reconstructions generated directly from underwater video footage
4D environmental and temporal overlays — dynamic monitoring that captures how conditions change over time
5D semantic reasoning agents — intelligent AI agents that interpret, analyze, and act on the data autonomously
The result is an unprecedented level of underwater situational awareness — one that goes far beyond traditional sensor-based monitoring and makes the hidden depths of our oceans truly understandable.
Extending to Offshore, Energy & Dual-Use Scenarios
With the NEPTUNE BEYOND project extension, the platform has evolved well beyond its original scope. NEPTUNE™ now supports monitoring of anthropic underwater installations across a range of demanding sectors — from offshore industrial assets and energy infrastructure to dual-use systems serving both civil and defence applications.
This expansion reflects MYWAI's broader vision: a single, scalable AI platform capable of operating across the full spectrum of underwater environments, from coral reefs to critical national infrastructure.
